Designing how to create a more Sustainable Maui

The short answer is to help combat climate change and give the population more food and water security. If we zoom out our perspective to the whole world, climate change is one of the biggest problems affecting all of us. Another large problem globally is food and water insecurity. Although some of us may not feel those effects here, they're always a possibility. We need to be more self-sufficient should we not be able to get shipments from the mainland or if fossil fuels run out.

If Maui becomes more self sufficient we wouldn’t be stranded with a lack of food, energy, and water. That’s why Maui needs to become self-sustainable and why my goal is to design a future in which Maui could be an example for the rest of the world in sustainability.
